This week’s podcast guest is…

Stereogum Executive Editor and “Dosa Hunt” Director Amrit Singh

He joins Chuck and Zach to talk about Dosa Hunt, the short film he made last year featuring members of Vampire Weekend, Yeasayer, Das Racist and more in a van looking for dosa in Manhattan and Queens. We talk about what it was like to grow up as a brown indie rock dude in America and more importantly how hot Anand from Yeasayer’s mom is.

Last night on NPR, Amrit and Anand joined John Schaefer on his great WNYC programme Soundcheck. They discussed the film and straight up ate dosa ON THE AIR. It’s a good chat! You can hear it at the Soundcheck page, or you can stream it below, OR you can have this MP3 forever. As you like.

Podcast: Food is the New Rock #19 w/ Das Racist

SAFE, Lex, & Chef Kris Yenbamroong w/ Dap & Kool A.D. from Das Racist

DAS RACIST IS THIS WEEK’S PODCAST GUEST!!!!

Dapwell and Kool A.D. from the hip hop group Das Racist (and their friends Lex & SAFE) join Zach on the show this week to talk about dosa, Chinese buffets, and DMT. Plus we ask them about their breakout song “Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell” and about their appearance in Dosa Hunt, a film by Amrit Singh (from Stereogum). And there’s even a rant about Primanti Bros. They also brought along their friends SAFE and Lakutis (aka Lex) to join in on the fun. And a big thanks to last week’s podcast guest Kris Yenbamroong for letting us record the show at Night + Market, his West Hollywood Thai restaurant that’s just a few blocks away from the Roxy.

Announcing the opening run of DOSA HUNT @ Nitehawk Cinema in Williasmburg on Friday 10/5, Saturday 10/6, and Monday 10/8!
Buy tickets now!
Each ticket comes with dosa and samosa (provided by the delicious Anjappar). After each screening there will be a Q&A panel moderated by music television great John Norris. The afterparties will have complimentary Kingfisher beer, with DJ sets by DFA Artist REWARDS (Friday), Jagjaguwar artist Small Black (Saturday), and Quinn Walker of Frenchkiss Records outfit Suckers (Saturday). Tickets are $15 — for dinner, screening, beer, and friendship. THAT’S PRETTY GOOD.
Friday and Saturday doors are at 11PM (with dosa at 12AM, screening at 12:30AM), while Monday is a Columbus Day matinee at 1PM, which will be a special time. Dosa and drinking is a great way to observe that holiday given how much that dude loved Indians.
That above is an event-specific variation on the official film poster, by NYC tattoo artist/godbody Anil Gupta. He is the best.
We’re really proud of the movie and can’t wait to share it with you. These will be beautiful celebrations. We’d love to have you.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww yeah…
