He famously swapped a rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle for cheesemaking in the Cotswolds, but now Alex James, the former Blur bass player, has gone one step further and signed a deal to sell a range of cheeses through Asda, the UK’s second biggest supermarket.
I think when you get married that it’s the end of rock’n’roll. When you start having kids something does change. It’s been amazing, though. When I was 18 I thought I was going to have to kill myself when I hit 40. I thought it would be all over, but it keeps getting better and better as you evolve. What you want out of life changes, and my idea of heaven now is good food with my family. It’s pretty simple but it’s about as good as it gets.
Top 10 Music Videos That Feature Food

Food Republic puts together their top 10 music videos to use food in a weird way, and it’s a strong list. Our favorite? Warrant’s “Cherry Pie” is an oldie but goodie, but how can you beat the walking milk carton in Blur’s “Coffee & TV”?

Not only is Alex James the bassist for Blur, a farmer, cheesemonger, and festival thrower but he’s also a food reviewer for The Sun. Here’s what he had to say about the “Meat Fruit” at Heston Blumenthal’s new London restaurant “Dinner”:
It’s chicken pate that looks just like an orange and tastes like heaven. Heston’s description takes about ten minutes. Dry ice is involved. But I wasn’t really concentrating because I’d been cast into a stupor by the smell of the thing. All I know is that I was smiling. It was an enchantment.
Hello pate in the shape of an orange. Pleased to meet you. (Wooo-hooo!)
Blur Bassist To Throw Food Fest on His Farm
Blur star turned farmer Alex James is to throw open his Oxfordshire estate to host a music festival. James said: “We’ll throw open the farm gates for Harvest this September. My family are looking forward to a celebration of all our favourite things - food, the farm and music. What more could we ask for?” James, who has developed a cheese-making business since stepping away from the limelight, as well as working as a broadcaster, is expected to record with Blur again this year.
