Chef Eddie Huang takes Producer Emile Haynie (Eminem, Lana Del Rey) to eat in Flushing
Here’s Zak Pelaccio’s new cookbook Eat With Your Hands, full of recipes from his New York restaurants Fatty Crab and Fatty ‘Cue. The book clearly aims for a sort of rock ‘n roll vibe, most notably in a recipe for whole hog that calls for, among other things, two bottles of the hard-to-get Pappy Van Winkle bourbon, a couple joints, and an 8-ball. Each recipe is accompanied by a music recommendation and a drink suggestion, to be drunk during cooking “to alleviate stress and [numb] you to the trivial concerns of a broken society.”
Examples of music recs…
- Lobster Wonton Mee - Mandrill “Solid”
- Braised Lamb Shoulder w/ Cavatelli - Roxy Music “2HB”
- Beef Rendang -Some borderline cheesy seventies groove, like Herbie Mann’s Push Push , Grover Washington’s Mister Magic, or if you want to go contemporary, stuff from Shawn Lee or Luke Vibert . Silly music that you almost forget is there until you realize you’ve been bobbing your head for the last hour.
Figbar, it’s too late. Your chalkboard already took the internet by storm. So awesome!
If this keeps up, we’re going to have rename this site Food is the New Rap.

June 22, 2007 @ some old warehouse we found the day of the show, Brooklyn, NY
Dan: On the day of the “Mapmaker” record release show Todd P went to the intended venue only to find that it had been turned into a sweatshop. We ended up sneaking 700 people into a Bushwick construction site that is now Roberta’s pizza (and a few adjoining businesses). Someone told me that the stage we used was actually a table used for cutting sheets of glass. We managed to fit a horn section and Joe Kremer from Pterodactyl on stage with us, but I also managed to fall through one corner of it at the end of our set.
I was totally at this show. Can’t believe that empty construction site is now Roberta’s…
A dosa hunt through Queens featuring members of Das Racist, Yeasayer, and Vampire Weekend with Amrit from Sterogum?!
And they have a tumblr.
I think it’s safe to say we’re excited for this documentary.
Music is a major reason for why our staff is so tight. I’ve compiled a playlist of songs that are particularly special to us in the kitchen — our anthems, our dance-party starters, and the songs that make us laugh, cry and make tagliatelle at the speed of light! Our entire staff regularly ends up in the kitchen for dancing and singing.
Cobra Starship’s Bassist Loves Ramen & Batali

Food has played a central role in the life of Cobra Starship bassist Alex Suarez. After working as a catering chef in Florida—eventually running his own company that specialized in Southern-fried spins on classics—he set out for New York City, settling in Williamsburg and working as a cashier at Whole Foods in Manhattan.
We checked in with Suarez for his favorite culinary memories, and for thoughts about his band’s obsession with all things Japan. Well, the food at least…
