This week’s Food is the New Rock podcast guest is…

JOE KWON from THE AVETT BROTHERS

He’s not only the band’s cello player but he’s also their resident cook and food blogger. We talk to him about his Korean food filled weekly “family reunions” growing up in North Carolina, Dave Matthews’ catering, and his favorite places to eat in Nashville, Raleigh, Portland and more. Plus he weighs in on what BBQ is the best. Spoiler: His favorite is from eastern North Carolina (which apparently is completely different than western North Carolina BBQ.)

Podcasted with @dubfire today. We brought him sangak and he got us this amazing bottle of sake. Soooo not a fair trade (not that we’re complaining!) #futurepodcast

This one’s for Wylie Dufresne. 20 yrs ago this week I saw the Dead for the last time. More importantly, I also ate my last parking lot fatty egg roll. #tbt

Aaaaaaaand here’s 2 Chainz eating a $300 hamburger.

Not sure who we’re more jealous of in this video.  Chef Josef Centeno for getting to watch Mark Foster make music, or Mark Foster for getting to watch Josef Centeno cook.

This week’s podcast was recorded live on stage at

FOOD NETWORK IN CONCERT

… at Ravinia w/ Chef Wylie Dufresne, Food Network star Jeff Mauro, Josh Kaufman (winner of Season 6 of The Voice), Chris Carrabba (from Dashboard Confessional and Twin Forks) and Lori Majewski (author of Mad World: An Oral History of the New Wave Artists and Songs That Defined the 1980s.) We talk more Grateful Dead and Lou Reed w/ Wylie, hear about Jeff’s first concert, find out what Josh feeds his kids, and hear about the kind of food Chris grew up eating. And then, towards the end, the discussion turned into vegetarians vs. the meat eaters as we discussed the politics of food and the idea of food as art. Can you guys who was on which side?
